Sometimes you can take a photo that is perfect except for that one little thing, someone blinks, one person has red eye, or something in the background you didn't see that you wish wasn't in the shot, or a photo simply may have degraded.
This doesn't mean you have to bin the photo as sometimes these can be rescued and restored.
For example:
Red Eye Removal.
 
Object Removal.
 
 
As you can see, removing red eye and objects from the photo can greatly improve there look. As above the removal of red eye will bring your attention away from the glaring red and only onto the natural blue of her eyes. In the other 4 shots, the removal of the tables, and the green umbrella focuses you on the happy couple instead of distracting items.
Another alteration that can produce pleasing results is just changing the color of a photo from Color to Black & White, or a variation as per below.
